This Instructable will go through the design process as applicable to many different airplane configurations, and the trade offs associated with different designs. These aircraft were all designed in different environments worlds apart and yet were effective in their mission through unique solutions. These included the P-51 Mustang, BF-109, P-40, Spitfire as well as several WW2 fighters turned racers. Therefore my research began with finding various parent aircraft to look at for design inspiration. For me I choose to design a fighter styled after the great piston engine fighters of WW2. This will be the guiding force behind all research that is conducted and all design choices that will be made. To design any airplane the first task is always to define what its mission will be. As a engineering student I know that I still have much to learn, but that there also a lot that I can teach since I have been flying, building, and designing airplanes for about 10 years. Aviation has been a passion of mine all my life, and has led me to pursue my aerospace engineering degree. Hello everyone this is my first Instructable but I am excited and eager to share with all of the great people on here how to design and build a remote control airplane.
